Becoming a vendor is an excellent opportunity to get into the flourishing retail scene of Downtown Lancaster. In addition to amazing restaurants and nightlife, boutique shopping and contemporary accommodations, BUiLDiNG CHARACTER vendors are located in a historic warehouse setting in the heart of the city’s best shopping districts, the 300 Block of North Queen Street.

Our Mission

BC’s mission is a simple one: 90% of the merchandise sold inside BC’s century-old brick walls is recycled, handmade, or vintage and sourced or made by locals. From vintage and retro clothing to handmade jewelry and accessories to art, vintage home goods and collectibles to handmade stickers and greeting cards and so much more, BC strives to offer a unique shopping experience that benefits both the customer and the entrepreneur running each space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does it cost to rent a space?

A: Spaces generally range from $85 to $700 per month, depending on size and location. If your application is chosen for an available space, our Vendor Manager will show you the options we have available.

Q: Is a commission taken from sales?

A: Yes. We take a 16% commission from each sale. There is also an additional 5% fee taken from sales paid by credit card.

Q: Am I required to work at Building Character?

A: No. You do not have to man your booth, nor do you have to work any hours at the retail counter. You rent your space and keep it full and clean; we take care of the rest!

Q: Can I work at Building Character in exchange for rent?

A: No, we do not offer spaces in exchange for employment.

Q: How can I be added to the waitlist if no spaces are available?

A: We do not really have a waitlist. When a space opens up, we revisit applications on file to find a vendor who can bring something new and unique or that fills a need.
